Experiential Learning
|
Experiential learning is conducted on the Architectural Technology programme by way of studio work, site visits, student exhibitions, guided tours to factories and laboratory practicals. To the left are images of a site visit to Galway City Council Community Centre, Headford Road in March 2015 (Purcell Construction) with 2nd and 3rd year AT students. Students were broken into two groups and given a guided tour of the site. We then went to NUIGs New Engineering Building (NEB), where we had a guided tour by Buildings and Estates. We subsequently met Tom O'Farrell from Moy Materials, who gave the students a talk on the green roof of NEB and tutored them on their green roof details in the Board Room. The images on the lower left are of a trip with fourth year AT students to Ecological Building Systems to their Fabric First Training Course in 2014. I have facilitated experiential learning through concrete labs, energy labs, CAD labs in first and second year, surveying practicals and studio at GMIT. Experiential Labs are always well received by students.
