Tom O'Farrell facilitated exemplary practice-based learning for 2nd, 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students on the Architectural Technology programme at GMIT this year. He took students through a formal lecture on zero-leaks using photographs and experiences from site and then engaged in active learning by tutoring some students on their roof plan and/or sectional details. The pedagogical approach for this exercise was to give students experiential learning by mirroring seeking of technical expertise, as would be required of them in practice. All learning and resources were very well received by staff and students alike. It was good to get all the students in to the one room for the talk. The pedagogical approach to this exercise was to get collaborative discussions on detailing going between students from different years on the programme. You can see second years watching third year work being tutored in the photograph on the left.
